Pulse is the student ministry of Relevant Church.
Most of you probably know that. Many of you probably actually come to Relevant on the weekend. One of Relevant’s guiding principles for how we do church is that we will be authentic. In other words, we are going to be who we are. We are going to get real. If we have strengths we will own them. If we have weaknesses…well, we will own them too.
Authenticity is the key to building your friendship with God.
Think about it. If you want to be good friends with someone in your life…your friendship is shallow and fake unless you are open and honest about who you are. The same applies with Jesus. He knows all about you. But He wants you to let down the guard and take off the mask that you might be tempted to put on and get real with Him. He wants you to share your struggles with Him and He wants to celebrate with you when you get it right.
Jesus is not a friend who is going to leave you high and dry when the going gets tough. He’s the kind of friend who always has your back just like He had Adam & Eve’s and Abraham & Sarah’s backs when they didn’t get it right. But He also loves you enough to confront you when something needs to change.
H/W Challenge
Do the deep thinking work of determining if there are any masks or costumes you’ve been wearing in your life.
Have you been acting like you’ve got it together when your really fighting to hold on?
What areas of your life are you (willingly or accidentally) hiding from God?
Expose those areas by owning them as you talk to God in prayer.
