Yes, you read that title right. Sometimes, we think and say trashy things about God. You might be thinking, “I get how you can talk trash about your flaws, and other people’s flaws, but how could you talk trash about God? He doesn’t have any flaws!” And you would be one hundred percent right. But no matter how great your walk with Jesus is, or how often you read your Bible, you’ve doubted God before. You’ve wondered if he’s real, or if he really loves you. You’ve thought about the possibility of God being mad at you, or questioned his goodness. If you’re asking these questions, it’s perfectly normal, but the enemy is really great at using those questions to turn us away from God.
Remember the most famous verse in the whole Bible: John 3:16. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
God is not distant. God is not mad. He is not fake, and he most certainly doesn’t hate you. God is love, plain and simple. So stop letting the enemy speak lies into your heart about who God is, and start believing the fact that God loves you unconditionally.
H/W CHALLENGE
If you still have it, go back to that list from day 11. Did you write down anything that might be considered a trashy thought about God? If so, its normal. If not, you probably just didn’t realize how normal it was and didn’t want to write it down. Today’s heart work challenge is simple. Write down as many good and amazing things about God that you can think of. Approach it with the idea of love at the center because God is love!
Write things like:
Because God loves me He ________.
Because God is good He _________.
Because God knows everything He can _____________________ my life.
Because God is honest, I can trust Him with __________________.
PRAY
God, you gave me your only Son. Jesus gave me His life. So that I can trust that you are good and you have my back. Thank you for being who you are. Please help me take out the trash of bad thoughts toward you. Please help me believe in you when its hard to and not just when its easy. Strengthen me. In Jesus name, Amen.
